Juvenile Miscellany magazine is first published.

(Sept.) It is published by John Putnam from offices at the site of today’s Government Center Station (then then 81 Court Street). The first successful children’s magazine in the U.S., its first editor is Lydia Maria Child, who serves in the position until 1834. The magazine competes with The Youth’s Companion magazine for older children and continues to be published until 1836.
